Hello! My name is Mallory Tyler and I am a Data Science major, Education Studies minor, Geospatial Information Analysis certificate, and taking coursework in beekeeping. I studied abroad for the second time during the Summer A term in 2024 and enjoyed every moment of the experience. The western hemisphere is home to only one species of honey bee, Apis mellifera, but all other species of honey bee can be found throughout southeast Asia. UF in Thailand – Beekeeping in Asia highlights the amazing biodiversity of honey bees in Thailand and allows students to explore the different environments in which these bees may be found. Thailand has five species of honey bee, four native and one imported. The four native species are Apis florea, Apis andreniformis, Apis cerana, and Apis dorsata. The imported species is Apis mellifera, the honey bee we have in the United States. This study abroad allowed me to further explore one of my greatest passions: bees! I would recommend study abroad to everyone!
